Monkey Burger Mondays – let’s launch

I thought I had finished with this project for good but I was wrong. And so it begins. Today, I’ll begin the first of a series of “Monkey Burger Mondays.”

The project will evolve from here.

“Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end; then stop.” – Lewis Carroll (from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)

We’ll kick off Monkey Burger Mondays with this link to the original email that prompted me to start collecting folklore and urban legends about food. Don’t bother trying to make the recipe in that email, it’s as hoaxy as the email itself. If you are looking for chocolate chip cookie recipes that work, click here or use the one below. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 cups rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 package chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream sugars and shortening together. Beat in the egg and add the vanilla. Sift dry ingredients together in another bowl, then add them to the sugar mixture. Take a spoon and drop cookies onto a greased cookie sheet (or cookie sheet lined with parchment paper). Leave enough room for the cookies to expand as they bake, about  3-inches. Bake for 15-minutes.
